Death

In shortSomething is over. Treat it as over.

Something has ended, and the whole task is treating it as ended. This card is very rarely about literal death. It is about a clean ending that makes room — a job, a relationship, a belief, a version of yourself that no longer fits. It is not gentle, but it is fair: what it takes was already finished. Whatever comes next is real, and you cannot get to it while you are keeping the old thing on life support.

You are holding the door shut. This is an ending you have accepted in theory but not acted on: the job you quit in your head, the relationship you are running on fumes. The reluctance makes complete sense. The card just notes that things are now rotting in place, which is worse than a clean cut.

In the pictureThe skeletal rider moves steadily forward; the king lies fallen, while a child and a maiden meet him differently. Behind him, the sun rises between two towers — the same towers as The Moon, but here it is dawn. The white rose on his banner is the same rose The Fool carried.

The turn

Name what is already over and act as if it is. Stop funding the old version.
