Six of Pentacles

In shortGiving and receiving, and who holds the power.

Upright

Resources move to where they are needed. This is generosity and fair exchange — giving when you have it, receiving when you do not, and understanding that both roles come round. It often means help arriving, or a chance to be the one who helps.

Reversed

The exchange has a hook in it. Gifts with conditions attached, generosity used to establish who is above whom, debts that never quite clear, or a pattern where you are always the giver or always the taker. Something other than kindness is going on.

In the pictureA merchant weighs scales in one hand while dropping coins to two kneeling beggars with the other. He has both the money and the scales — he decides both the amount and the fairness. That asymmetry is deliberate.

The turn

Give or ask, plainly and without conditions. Note who currently holds the scales.
