Six of Swords

In shortMoving from rough water to calmer water.

Upright

transitionmoving to calmer watera necessary journeygradual recovery

You are leaving a difficult stretch for a quieter one, carrying what happened with you. A move, a recovery, a departure. It is not joyful and it is not meant to be — it is the grey, sober relief of things starting to get easier.

Reversed

unable to move ona return to troubleresistance to changebaggage

The crossing stalls. You cannot leave, you go back, or you make the move and bring so much of the old situation with you that nothing actually changes. Occasionally it marks a departure that is not yet possible and should not be forced.

In the pictureA ferryman poles a boat carrying a cloaked figure and a child; six swords stand upright in the hull — the trouble travels with them, but it is stowed, not wielded. The water ahead is glassy, the water behind choppy.

The turn

Move first, process later. The calmer water is where the thinking happens.
